The 2026 Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival is considered a great success, leaving a deep impression on delegates, residents, and tourists

A highlight of this year’s festival was the proactive and creative approach to organization, with activities scheduled continuously throughout the week to create a vibrant “no-day-off” rhythm. Communication efforts were intensified on digital platforms to spread the image of Điện Biên.

For the first time, a street carnival was organized with nearly 3,000 performers, artisans, students, athletes, and international art troupes, attracting nearly 20,000 spectators. The Mường Thanh Walking Street space became a focal point for many exciting cultural and entertainment activities. Furthermore, the introduction of new sports like cycling and cross-country running, alongside cultural and culinary experiences in various communes and wards, enriched the festival’s content and increased its appeal to tourists.

The festival has contributed to raising awareness among all levels, sectors, and residents about the care and protection of the ban tree and the ecological environment, gradually forming a tourism development mindset, particularly in community-based cultural tourism. During the discussions, delegates proposed several solutions to improve future festivals, including the study of a fixed annual date to allow for better preparation and more convenient planning for tourists. There was a consensus on the need to strengthen the care and development of Hoa Ban trees, linking them with planning for specific flower routes to create landscape highlights and unique tourism products for Điện Biên.

Leader of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the festival’s standing agency, providing feedback during the meeting.

Regarding check-in points, delegates suggested adding signage systems and traffic flow instructions to ensure safety and enhance the visitor experience. Strategic thematic planning for Hoa Ban areas should be implemented early and systematically. Media work needs a long-term plan across diverse platforms, especially digital channels. Additionally, delegates proposed that the province increase cooperation with experts and tourism consultants to enhance professionalism and sustainably build the brand for the festival.

Nguyễn Minh Phú, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, delivering the concluding speech.

Concluding the meeting, Nguyễn Minh Phú acknowledged the smooth coordination between departments and localities alongside the innovations that led to the success of the recent festival season. He emphasized that future plans must include the participation and performance of the unique cultures of all 19 ethnic groups in the province, especially in parade activities. He also called for the carnival to be professionalized and for increased efforts in caring for ban trees, maintaining environmental hygiene, and expanding festival spaces. Improving tourism service quality and diversifying products, particularly souvenirs associated with ban flowers, will be crucial in creating a lasting impression and sustainable attraction for visitors.
